Just wanted to let y'all know that we made it to Niger. And PRAISE the LORD because our bags were checked all the way to Niamey from South Dakota. Thank you for those of you who prayed for that & prayed for our travels. We probably looked like the Beverly Hillbillies trampsing through all the airports with all of our carry-ons & suitcases! The kids did unbelievably well on 3 out of the 4 flights & through all the layovers (including a 6 hour one in NY & a 13 hour one in Casablanca).
I know that 40 hours of traveling is tough on an adult, so I cannot even imagine what our kids' bodies were feeling! Let's just say that the last flight was not fun at all! Have you ever been on a plane & heard a baby screaming or a toddler throwing a tantrum & you think, "Those parents need to get a hold of their children!" Let me tell you, those were our kids & I was seriously doing all I could to calm them down but, for the life of me, they would NOT cooperate! I guess lack of sleep does something to a kid's ability to make rational decisions!
Anywho, it's over & done now & I am nowhere near ready to do it again anytime soon!! Thank you for all of your prayers & thoughts of us as we made this epic journey! We're going to rest today & spend a few days moving into our new home in Niamey! As soon as we get internet set up, we'll start doing some back posts of our time in the States ... to catch ya up, in case you wondered what we did for 7 months! : )

leaving on a jet plane
Okay, seriously y'all ... I have done an awful job of blog posting since we've been in the States ... AWFUL!!! We did so much better when we actually lived across the ocean with limited internet access. How can that be?
Well, I've been told that when you have a second child that your love doesn't divide in 1/2 for your children but it doubles. And it is oh so true! But what does not double is your TIME! I don't think I was quite prepared for how little time I would have when welcoming Luke Cleveland into our family!! Oh & the fact that we've traveled to 10 different States, slept in over 25 different beds, visited all of our family & most of our friends, spoke in 16 churches & put more than 15,000 miles on the car that was loaned to us ... all on top of adding that bundle of joy to our family!!
We have had SO much fun while being in the States and have made more memories than we can count. Isabelle is at that age where EVERYTHING is so fun for her & she gets SO excited at the smallest thing. It is so fun to go places & do things with her. Seriously, memories for a lifetime & we are so grateful to have had this time in the States to do SO many things that we cannot do overseas!
Anywho, here's the real reason for this post ... we are heading back to the land of slow internet and, hopefully, more blog posting in ... (are you ready for this?) ... 16 hours!!! Aaaahhh!!
We are SOOO excited to be able to go "home"! And we are SOOO nervous for the travel involved to get us there! So here's what we are looking at folks (& we covet your prayers for this endeavor) ... 2 tired adults, 1 VERY active toddler, 1 cute little baby whose cry can make your hairs stand up on end, 4 carry-ons, 8 suitcases, 2 strollers & 2 car seats traveling for 39 hours on 4 different flights to land in the country we love at an endearing 3 o'clock in the morning! Oh did I mention we have to re-check our luggage in New York City?! Seriously ... all of those items listed above have to be transferred from one terminal to another (that do NOT connect by the way) & doing it by ourselves. Lord, give us STRENGTH!
We just wanted you all to know that we have been alive & well & very busy while we've been in the good ole U S of A but we have not forgotten you ... those 3 of you who actually still read this blog! We have appreciated your prayers more than you will ever know and covet them as we begin this journey all over again ... with 1 more in tow!
Well, the next time you hear from us, we'll be broadcasting from the lovely (& hot) land of Niger!
